The apple blossom in our orchard is a wonderful time. Today, it is just beginning: buds of early varieties in full bloom, others opening, later ones still tight.

But I close my eyes and memories of past seasons bring hope for good things to come once more: crunchy and sweet Bardsey Island, aromatic Laxton Permain and Ashmed Kernel, delicious juice pressed from Gascoine’s Scarlet Seedling and Quarrenden Red, apple pies from Alfreston and Bramley.
